High-yield corn demonstration project achieves breakthrough in Xifeng

The 100-mu (6.7 hectares) high-yield corn demonstration project in Dawan village, Xiaozhaiba town, Xifeng county, jointly carried out by agricultural technicians at the provincial, municipal, county, and township levels, recently achieved remarkable results: the average yield was confirmed at 904.84 kilograms per mu, surpassing the expected target by 13.1 percent.

This success stems from the integrated application of advanced agricultural technologies. The project adopted high-density tolerant varieties such as "Zhenyu No 8" and "Youdi 899", while promoting high-yield cultivation practices and root-based water-conservation techniques.

Mechanized sowing raised the planting density to 3,800 plants per mu, complemented by the use of water-retaining agents and bio-regulation technologies during key growth stages. These innovations significantly enhanced light, water, and nutrient efficiency, laying a solid foundation for stable and high yields.

Since the start of this year, Guiyang has focused on Xifeng county in its efforts to drastically increase corn yield. Two 10,000-mu bases, 10 1,000-mu demonstration fields, and 10 100-mu plots have been established, offering 31,700 mu of green, high-yield, and efficient planting. Improved varieties and advanced cultivation techniques have been fully applied.

Meanwhile, soil testing and precise fertilization have ensured balanced nutrient supply throughout the corn's growth cycle, further safeguarding production.
