Xifeng surpasses its grain planting target

Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently held the third quarter news conference 2024, detailing its work achievements. The county completed a total grain planting area of 267,900 mu (17,860 hectares), achieving 128.2 percent of its target and ensuring grain supply and key agricultural products are sufficient.

This year, Xifeng developed the "2024 Grain Production Plan of Xifeng County", which identified information about abandoned land, including its contractors, location, area, and type. A detailed database was established, and accountability was assigned. Based on the fertility conditions of the abandoned land, grain production was prioritized to protect land resources and stabilize the grain planting area.

Meanwhile, the county combined online and offline methods to promote agricultural technologies, disseminate knowledge, and provide training on coping with extreme weather. It encouraged agricultural entities to guide farmers in timely planting, fertilizing, and pest control, ensuring high-quality crop growth.

Efforts have also been made to encourage agricultural enterprises and large-scale farmers to lease land from smallholders and promote intensive farming. This effort has significantly boosted the development of specialty industries such as poultry, fish, and premium fruit.

In the first three quarters, the county completed the management and utilization of 348,856 mu of forest land for the under-forest economy, generating a full-industry-chain output value of 1.29 billion yuan ($181.91 million).

The county expects to produce 13.05 million poultry, 23,010 metric tons of aquatic products, and 119,400 tons of fruit by the end of the year. Additionally, the county standardized nine farmers' cooperatives, conducted county-level reviews for 46 family farms and registered 30 large-scale farming households and 571 large-scale planting households.
