This year, Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has worked to renovate old residential areas to improve people's living conditions.

The renovation work involves 32 residential areas comprising 193 buildings, with a construction area of 803,200 square meters, and is expected to benefit 9,643 households.

The residential buildings on both sides of the South Street were the first to be renovated, due to the street being the county's first urban arterial road connecting the old urban center and new urban center of Xifeng.

The residential buildings were built in the early 21st century, and due to long-term disrepair, the exterior walls of the houses had problems such as tiles falling off, leading to safety hazards. In recent years, Yongyang sub-district and related neighborhood committees have often received complaints from residents about falling tiles on the exterior walls of buildings and water seepage on exterior walls.

The renovation of No 12 building on South Street started at the end of March and was completed in June, completely eliminating hidden safety hazards and improving the overall appearance of the building.

Xifeng is now striving to complete all renovation work by the end of December.
