Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, continues to insert efforts to carry out the 10-year-no-fishing joint law enforcement campaign to preserve the water ecosystem in the Wujiang River basin (Xifeng section).
The campaign for this year lasted for 10 days, and two working groups in charge of the land and river and port patrol tasks were set up.
The campaign started last year when relevant officials from the county's bureaus of public security, agriculture, rural affairs, transportation, water affairs management, and towns involved finished a series of coordinated patrol, cleaning, and other tasks.
So far, about 52 patrols have been carried out, and 176 staff members have taken part in them, covering more than 5,340 kilometers of water areas and with 107 boats inspected.

Recently, the water level at the Xifeng section of the Wujiang River has fallen from 760 meters (2,493 feet) to 732.04 meters, and many abandoned fishing nets were seen floating on the river's surface. The materials used to make the net are nonbiodegradable and will severely impact the living and reproduction of fish, which is why the government has organized net cleaning actions. So far, remarkable results have been made.
