In recent years, Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has unswervingly carried out the forest chief system in a bid to synergize the ecological and social interests of forest resources.
The system has been established at the county, town, and village levels. Forest chiefs at all three levels are responsible for conducting regular patrols over their regions and promptly discovering and addressing problems.
Other related performance assessments and responsibility accountability mechanisms were also set up to ensure the effective implementation of the forest chief system.
Public signs were placed throughout designated areas to notify the community of specific forest chiefs and the forests they are responsible for. All activities are under the inspection of people.
Efforts have also been taken to safeguard and preserve ancient trees.
This year, Xifeng has planted 300,000 trees, fulfilling its annual goal.
