Huadeng opera competition takes place

A Huadeng opera competition – a traditional folk art characterized by people holding fans and handkerchiefs while singing and dancing – was held in Xifeng county, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Jan 31.

Li Mingwei, head of the county's department of publicity, addressed those in attendance and participating. Li extended gratitude to all the 11 competition teams and the expert panel participating in the activity. He cited the Huadeng opera as a humorous and simple intangible cultural asset that is liked by many people.

The competition has had four successful sessions, with this being the fifth. The stories told in Huadeng opera are usually familiar to all the locals, and during the competition they depicted the tremendous changes that have taken place in Xifeng.
