Xifeng county improves livelihoods through water governance

Xifeng county in Guiyang, Guizhou province has been working to improve people's livelihoods through better water governance.

The safety of drinking water in rural areas is now guaranteed in the county, which has completed comprehensive drinking water safety investigations and rectified all related problems for registered impoverished people. A total of 8.6 million yuan ($1.35 million) has been invested in projects such as water supply pipeline works, well pump station expansion and 21 rural water supply project maintenance projects to consolidate and improve drinking water safety for 20,000 people. Five hundred kilograms of sanitizer has also been distributed to ensure water quality standards.

Domestic sewage treatment projects have been improved as well. A total of 95.33 million yuan has been invested in Xifeng's phase-III sewage treatment construction project, and the sewage treatment capacity has been increased with 10 thousand tons of domestic sewage treated daily and a supporting sewage collection network of 43.11 kilometers. Yin'an village area's domestic sewage treatment project with a sewage network of 3.5 kilometers has been launched and Wenquan village's water damage repair projects, new 130-meter sewage network, 60-meter drainage channel and 120-meter unclogging sewage pipes have been completed.

Moreover, the control of black and odorous water bodies has been strengthened. Xifeng continues to promote the comprehensive management of river and lake ecosystems and to consolidate the 2020 achievements of the river chief system in Guiyang. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 304 water samples have been tested, and about 5,775 test indexes have been completed. Water-quality test results have all been satisfactory. The county is expected to invest 495,000 yuan in the renovation of a black and smelly rural water body and complete it by the end of November.
