"The road used to be bumpy with many potholes, which would fill with water when it rained. It would be slippery, posing a risk to children and the elderly. After being renovated, the road has become safer to walk on," said a resident surnamed Chen, referring to a road in Yongjing town in Xifeng, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

This year, Xifeng has renovated 43,300 square meters of old residential areas with 496 households. Most renovations of buildings in these areas have been completed, with some supporting infrastructure still to be completed.

The county has also rebuilt homes for 520 households in shanty towns, and has renewed 15 laneways, five of which are the demonstration ones.

In addition to making precise reconstruction plans and implementing them, Xifeng has also solicited opinions from residents to address weak links in infrastructure, improve the quality and scale of farm produce markets and parking lots, and build 15-minute community living circles for citizens.

The plans are that by 2023, 15 new parking lots will be established to offer additional 9,528 spaces, four farm produce markets will be set up, and the renovation work in old residential areas, shanty towns and laneways will progress in a phased manner.
