A commencement ceremony for students in Xifeng county's Mushan Primary School was held recently, which also marked an end of a 15-day volunteer education activity that involved 15 college volunteers from outside Guizhou province in Southwest China. Xifeng county is situated in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou.

Coming from China's top universities, such as Wuhan University, East China Normal University, and China University of Geosciences, the 15 volunteers spent more than two weeks with children in the school, many of whom have been left behind by their parents working outside the province for a living.

During the summer holiday, these kids not only lack care and normal custody, but also suffer the feeling of being alone.

In response to this, volunteers designed many kinds of interesting courses and offered children an unforgettable summer.

"Such aid education activities have been on for more than 10 years, and have been supported by universities throughout China. But the volunteer activity this year is different, in that four out of the 15 volunteers used to be students of our school. Now they have shifted from the role of students to that of a teacher, and have returned the kindness to their alma mater," said Xu Ping excitedly, president of the school.

"We hope to do as much as we can to pass on things we have learned to them, and share with them how we grew and learned in the past, in order to inspire them to have their own dreams, and have the courage to go out of the mountain, and see a broader world, " said Zhang Chi, a volunteer from East China Normal University.
