Xifeng county's economic development zone in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, set a goal of becoming a mid and high-end manufacturing core supporting area at the beginning of this year.
The pillar industry of the development zone is its phosphorus chemical industry, in which the county has ramped up efforts to upgrade production approaches and raise product quality. Based on the original industrial platform in the zone, Xifeng is striving to extend the industrial chain by guiding enterprises involved to develop food-grade, feed-grade, and pharmaceutical-grade fine phosphorous chemical products.
The county will expand its investment in phosphogypsum exploitation and research, and will continue to explore new markets for the phosphogypsum-related product.
From January to June, fixed-asset investments in the zone continued to grow and are expected to reach 760 million yuan ($114 million), while industrial investment is estimated to hit 560 million yuan. The industrial output of enterprises above a designated size is likely to reach 3.96 billion yuan, with the industrial added value standing at 776 million yuan, up 15 percent over the same period last year.
Officials from the development zone's Party work committee and administrative committee have been sent on research tours to Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hebei, and Jiangsu, where they have launched business research and promotion activities seven times, established communications with eight firms, and introduced three companies to Xifeng.
