Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been working hard to improve living conditions for villagers through policies, building public rural infrastructure, and initiating large-scale programs to deal with pollution.
The county clarified its final goal of establishing 28 pilot villages to showcase improvements in people's living conditions, and required each of these villages to sign an agreement on their obligations and targets.
Villagers who have successfully achieved these targets will be included on the village's honor list and receive various rewards.
Xifeng is currently home to 1,500 rural toilets and 48 village-level washrooms covering more than 90 percent of the county.
The government has also undertaken a project on domestic garbage transfer, with a total investment of 90 million yuan ($13.5 million), which has been used to set up 10 garbage transfer stations, 1,273 outdoor waste collecting sites, and add 5,092 trash cans to the county. The upgraded infrastructure has helped to collect garbage totaling 7,200 metric tons so far.
There are 73 administrative villages capable of processing domestic sewage water in a centralized way, benefiting 47,000 people, and two drinking water source conservation sites have been designated by the government.
The qualified rate of water quality in Xifeng is 100 percent, ranking first in Guizhou.
