Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has registered a gross output value of 846 million yuan ($126.9 million) from its agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery industries during the first quarter of 2021, with its growth rate reaching 8.1 percent, according to a report by Xifeng county's agriculture and rural affairs bureau on May 11.
Since the beginning of the year, the government has been pushing ahead with spring ploughing preparation work, periodically sending experts to instruct farmers on how to take care of their land and guiding them to sow seeds of vegetables, fruit, herbs, tea, and edible funguses in a timely manner.
Other works, such as fertilization and the prevention and control of insects, have also been carried out to ensure farmers can get high-quality agricultural products.
The county also applied for further capital from the upper levels of government for its special and advantageous industries.
Supporting infrastructure related to water, electricity, utilities and road construction has also been upgraded to further improve the living and working conditions of rural residents.
In addition, locally-produced agricultural products have enjoyed a higher rate at the local market, with canteens of rural primary and middle schools at all levels procuring more than 50 percent of their food materials from local retailers.
