Xifeng takes multiple measures to promote garbage classification

Xifeng county in Southwest China's Guizhou province has implemented multiple measures to promote garbage classification, according to the local government.

The county has formed 11 publicity working groups to hang posters and banners to publicize waste classification information in communities, agencies, campuses, enterprises and families. To date, the working groups have displayed more than 5,000 posters, posted more than 60 slogans including through WeChat and Weibo, conducted four door-to-door publicity and guidance sessions, and conducted one questionnaire survey via an agency.

Meanwhile, Xifeng county has built one new garbage transfer station in every town and village, built 1,273 outdoor garbage collection kiosks, put in 6,000 garbage bins in four varieties, and bought 12 garbage transfer trucks.

The county has also put in 43 garbage collection and transportation vehicles, and classified and identified them to realize the sorting and placement of recyclable garbage, hazardous garbage and kitchen waste.

The coverage rate of the garbage classification system and garbage treatment facilities has reached 100 percent, and the harmless disposal rate of garbage has reached 76 percent.

In addition, the county has optimized its living environment, with a total of 16,574 metric tons of domestic garbage and 2,235 tons of kitchen waste removed. Of this garbage, 80 percent is treated in a harmless manner.

The county has also implemented machine sweeping and manual cleaning on its main and secondary roads. Seven machine sweeping vehicles and 193 cleaning staff members work every day, cleaning more than 1 million square meters of the county.
