Xifeng cleans up its act, improving refuse disposal

Southwest China's Xifeng county has launched a series of initiatives to improve its environment, according to local officials.

They said the county has boosted the streets cleaning practices.

Cleaners have cleared a total of 18,197.4 tons of garbage and cleaned up more than 200 ignored and uncleaned nooks. They also washed down more than 660 streets and repaired and changed some damaged public facilities.

Xifeng has also enhanced its environment improvement work in rural areas.

The county has developed plans on the harmless disposal of household garbage and about 13,041.02 tons of household refuse was cleaned up in rural areas.

The county has also worked hard at introducing trash sorting to public areas, handed out brochures to the public, set up demonstration areas for trash sorting and posted information advertisements to raise public awareness.

Meanwhile, the county has continued to carry out centralized disposal of kitchen waste. More than 2,000 garbage cans and five transportation cars have allocated for the disposal of household food wastes. 

Furthermore, the county has invested more than 410,000 yuan ($58,284) to build a treatment plant for kitchen wastes, with a daily processing capacity of 20 tons.

So far, 1,498 tons of kitchen waste has been disposed.

Additionally, the county has enhanced supervision of waste landfill and carried out inspections on a regular basis.
